Kelly Yang

Kelly is in the 12th grade, in the Engineering program. She joined the robotics team because it seemed like a different experience then what she usually experience in everyday life. For the team, Kelly works on the team website and provides info on famous engineering of different ethnicity and backgrounds. She plans to learn a lot more about different engineering fields besides robotics. Robotics has taught her that it is not all about building a robot, but different team efforts to accomplish a goal in a deadline. Her favorite part of robotics is the coordinator, because he is respectful and leaves the experience for the students.

Darneshia Jones

Darneshia is in the 11th grade, in the Commercial Fine Arts . She joined robotics because it looked interesting when it caught her eye at our school pep fest and thought it was something she could get into. She works for the fundraising part of the team and some marketing. Darneshia isn’t too interested in pursuing her career in an engineering field but has plans ahead of her. By being on the robotics team she has felt that she can do something different as a girl and make her feel independent. What she likes the most about robotics is that she has met new people with certain interest as her and she can be creative in her own way.

Donte Mosley

Donte is in the 12th grader, in the Engineering program. At first he didn’t know what to expect but it was better than he had previously expected. He works with the hands on part of the team and other miscellaneous aspects of the team. He plans to be a construction worker or work on the site of a building being constructed. Donte feels that this has given him a real experience as an engineer would do. He loves that he can do hands on work and that is his favorite part of being on the team.

Davis Max - Safety, Press, and Pit Crew

Davis is in the 11th grade, in the Engineering program. He joined the robotics team because he felt that it might be a good experience of being an engineer. He works on the build team, not really hands on, but designing the robot in a program called inventor. It has helped him out cause he can get extra work done along with the robot instead of being limited to the activity. His favorite part of being on the team is to do the hands on aspect of it and feels like it is a fantastic experience.

Tiffany Suen

Tiffany is in the 11th grade, Engineering program. She helps work on the website and info that is put on there. She doesn’t know whether or not to pursue in the engineering field and is undecided. By learning that robotics provides more than just building a robot and hands on, she felt that she has a changed perspective on it. Her favorite part is that everyone is like a family and we work together and get along.

William Boyd

William is in the 11th grade, in the Engineering program. He joined the team because he thought it would be a good experience for working on a team. His job is writing the programs for the robot. In the future, he plans to work in an engineering field, ether computer or mechanical. He learned that it is crucial to work with team members to achieve all the goals for the team. His favorite part about being on the team is that he met people with the same interest as him and they can share thoughts and ideas easily.

Chor Khang

Chor is in the 11th grade, in the Engineering program. The main reason he joined was out of pure curiosity and maybe it was something he could get into. He works for the marketing team by handling the money income, outcome and overall balance. He does plan to work with in the engineering field but is undecided at the moment. Something that he feels he learned is that he can communicate with people on a different level. His favorite part is that it is an awesome experience so far and is taking on some responsibility.

Toulee Yang

Toulee is in the 9th grade, that partakes in the engineering field. He wanted to join because it looked fun and caught his interest in more ways than one. He would like to work in the engineering field someday but is undecided so far. The job he takes on is giving updates to the team so we can communicate better and be more productive. Robotics has made Toulee more outgoing and open to other things and experiences. His favorite part of being on the team is that he met new people.

Tyeka Williams

Tyeka is in the 12th grade, enrolled in the engineering program. Tyeka wanted to join because she thought it would be a good challenge and wanted to work on hands on things. Tyeka works with sponsoring our team for us to get noticed and more known in the community. Tyeka would like to work in the engineering field in the future as a architecture or in the electrical field. Tyeka is glad that she can learn new things because she is open to a lot of experiences that she can obtain. Her favorite part of being on the team is to work hands on.

Blaishia Lee

Blaishia is in the 12th grade, in the Internation Baccalaureate program. She joined the team because the people who partake in it are “Amazing people”. Blaishia does all she can to help on the team when she is needed, more like a supporter. In the future she doesn’t want to work in the engineering field as her career, but only as a recreational thing that she can do. The thing she learned most about being on the team is that “we are a team, and if we weren’t we would be nowhere.” As you can guess, her favorite part about being on the team is all the people who partake in it, like a “family”.

Tommy Tran

Thommy is in the 12th grade, in the Open program. He joined the team just by simple facts that his friends are on the team and he wants to support them and help in any way. He works on building the mascot and all its attires. Something that will stick with him through this experience is that you always have to know all the details of what you’re doing. Favorite part about being on the team is the teammates are like family.

Austin Nightingale

Austin is in 10th grade, in the engineering program. Austin had no idea what to expect when going into robotics. His parents encouraged him to join and try something new that he would maybe end up taking a likening too . Fortunately, that’s just what happened. He found himself later working on the programming team and learning all types of detail for programming. Being in the 10th grade, he hasn’t had time to think about his future, but plans to proceed in an engineering field. Favorite part about being in robotics is that everyone thinks of each other as a friend no matter who they are.

Lamar Roberts

Lamar is in the 12th grade, he partakes in the Internation Baccalaureate program. He got into robotics because one of his teachers volunteered him to do a task for the team, and since then it has grown on him as a hobby he likes to participate in. Lamar is the co-captain of the whole team and has been a part of it for 2 years already. He mainly works on marketing for the team and is also the captain of that. Unfortunately he does not see himself working in any engineering field in the future. He learned that robotics is not all about robotics but team work and other details that all connect together at a certain point in the long run. His favorite part about being on the team is all the people he meets and gets to know, furthering his possibilities on trying new things.

Bao Khang

Bao Khang is in the 10th grade, enrolled in the International Baccalaureate program. She joined the robotics team through the mentor. She suggested that she try and see if she enjoys being on the team. She thought of it as a good opportunity to try something new and to expand her mind. She participates in the marketing team. She also likes to help around wherever she can or is needed. Her mind is open to a future in engineering but is still undecided on what she wants to pursue actually. She has now taken on the fact that robotics is all about different types of people assigned to different to make the team successful. Taking on these responsibilities only made her smarter as a person. Her favorite part of being on the team is that everyone works together as a real team and its fun at the same time.

Ze Thao

Ze is in the 10th grade, International Baccalaureate program. Ze said she kind of “stumbles upon it” but she likes taking opportunities to keep her mind open and is glad she took this chance to learn something new. She works mainly in the marketing team as the director with Lamar. She doesn’t plan to work in the engineering field, only as a hobby. She plans to pursue her future career in cooperate law, (why she is in the marketing team). At first Ze was a typical skeptic when she heard about robotics but it was a whole different story to her and has led her to believe in high hopes for everyone on the team. Her favorite part about being on robotics is the role she plays for the team and it’s what she loves to do. Also the fact that she is surrounded by people with the same aspiration of wanting to achieve and have fun doing what there’re doing, this makes for a positive working environment.

Phanit Phoutthapone

Phanit is in 12th grade and is enrolled in the I.B program. What make Phanit want to join the robotic team because he felt that he needed to do an extracurricular activity that is purely on academic based. His part he work on the team is the marketing team. He is not planning to work in robotics and engineering field. What he has learned whiling being in robotics is engineer is a growing career in the world today and that the demand for engineer will rise. His favorite part about being in the team is being able to simulate working in the real world like as working in groups, and coming up with ideas together.

David Vang - Drive Team

David is in 10th grade and enrolls in engineering. What make David want to join robotics is because he wants to get some insight on programming. David is in the programming team and he programs the robot to move and go places. He plans to work in the computering engineering field. Whiling joining robotic he learned a lot more about lab view, the robotics team objective, and what it takes to make a good working team. His favorite part whiling being here in robotics is being able to contribute to the robot.

Lisa Vang

Lisa is in 9th grade and enrolls in MYP (middle year program). What make Lisa wanted to join robotics is because she thinks it interesting, fun, and she like to build and work on stuff. She is one of the chairmen’s award writer in robotic in the robotic team. She was not planning to work in robotics and engineering field. What she has learned whiling being in robotic is that everybody show respect to each other and are hard workers. Her favorite part about robotics is that teams are so divered and it likes another family.

Nick Barber

Nick is in 11th grade and enrolls in I.B. what make Nick had been joining in robotics team for 2 years now, wanted to join robotics because he thinks it was a sign to a better future, wanted a better opportunity, and he thinks it would be fun to try something new this year. He is one of the fundraising in robotics team. He is undecided if he wanted to work in robotic and engineering field. What he had learned whiling working in robotic is when you have been assigned to something means “do it”, no one else will force you but you will only hurt the team, and when you are doing something get it done on time. His favorite part about the team is the entire task is not that hard and not that easy.

Tanesha William

Tenesha is in 11th grade, enrolls in I.B. what makes him want to join robotics is because she thinks it will be fun to built stuff. Her part of the team is inventory and she research fundraising. She not planning to work in robotics and engineering field. What she has learned so far whiling being in robotics is contributed, do your part, and we are a team, and we must work together. Her favorite part about being in robotics is working together to accomplish the goals.

Tom Swanson - Drive Team

He is in the 10th grade and in the engineering SLC. He joins the robotics team because he is very interested in how robots work and what they do to help people. He is a programmer on the team but he can also do whatever needs to do like he can give extra help. He said he is sort of planning on working with robots eventually. He has learned a lot about programming the robot and setting it up. His favorite part about being on the robotics team is working with the robot and that is the best part.

Zoua Thao

She is in the 10th grade and in the engineering SLC. She joins the robotics team because she wanted to try something new and learn new things. She is on the media team and the person who works on the team website. She updates the website every week. She is planning to work in the engineering field or the robotics field. She learned how to work a website. Her favorite part about being on the robotics team is helping and meeting new people.

Erik Vongphakdy

He is in the 10th grade and in the engineering SLC. He joined the robotics team because he wanted to do some extracurricular activities and to learn more about engineering. He is on the build team and also the miscellaneous team. He is planning to work in the computer engineering field. He learned a lot in the robotics team like team work, focus, concentration, how to use tools and making new friends. His favorite part about being on the robotics team is working and building on the robot.

Josh Kukar

He is in the 12th grade and in the engineering SLC. He joined the robotics team because he is interested in robots and he knows some people on the team. He is on the programming and miscellaneous team. He works on programming and other random jobs that need to be done. He is planning to work in the engineering field. He learned how a robot requires a lot of different things to work. His favorite part about being on the robotics team is new things to learn about building a robot.

Michael Xiong

He is in the 12th grade and in the engineering SLC. He joined the robotics team because he wanted to join to be in an extracurricular activity book in 2009. He is on the miscellaneous team and he journals activities of the team in general, and try to help out other parts of the team when they need it, especially when people don’t show up. He is not sure if he is working in the engineering field. He learned how to use power tools, what parts of the robot do what, and the importance of teamwork. His favorite part about being on the robotics team is helping out the other parts of the team because it makes him feel more like a part of the team.

Arthur Quam

He is in the 11th grade and is in the engineering SLC. He joins the robotics team because it seemed like a good way to get experience in the field and that he is interesting in doing. He is on the programming team. He is planning on doing something in the computer science/engineering field. Aside from the technical skills he learned several things about the importance of teamwork in an engineering project of this caliber. His favorite part about being on the robotics team is the settle quirkiness inherits in all of the team members.

Jason Sweeney

Jason is a 10th grader, in the Engineering program. He joined engineering because he was into building and he also was into programming but he never got a chance to do programming because he was really experience in building. His part on the team is that he builds objects for the field and he helps with certain parts of the robot. Jason plans to work in the engineering field as a manufacturing or designing air planes. Jason has learned to work as a team and he learned how to use some tools. He also learned to be committed to something. His favorite parts about being on the robotics team is meeting the mentors and talking to people.

Justin Barnes

Justin is an 11th grader, in the Engineering program. He joined engineering because he likes to build stuff. His part on the team is building stuff for the robot. Justin plans to work in the engineering field; he would like to do mechanical engineering in the future. Justin has learned to build things.

Rattana Sengsoulichanh - Drive Team

Rattana is a 12th grader, in the Engineering program. He joined the robotics team because he felt that he could gain skills for his future career. Rattana is the team captain/task manager. His part on the team is to assign task, facilitate, making sure that the team meets its deadline and to reach all the requirements needed. What Rattana has learned is the different aspects of engineering, he also learned to work with other people and use his communication skills. His favorite part about being on the robotics team is that he has a chance to build a robot and that he gets to travel to different parts of the country in the U.S

Dylan Vaccaro

Dylan is an 11th grader, in the Engineering program. He joined robotics because he got chosen by Mr.Mckey and he thought he would try it out to see if he was interested in it or not. His part on the team is the build team and CAD worker. Dylan does plan to work in the engineering field. What he has learned is that to work on big projects you have to do individual task. His favorite part on robotics is that he can do hands on work with other people that know what their doing.

Justin Luoma

Justin is active in the engineering program and is in the 12th grade. I was put into it for my sixth hour, but as I began to spend time on the team, it kind of grew on him in a certain way. It wasn’t just building a robot but many other aspects of setting up for the competition and for our own self. For our team Justin is mostly an all around guy, he does whatever he can to help the team. On Saturday, Justin usually comes in and makes some waffles and got the nickname Waffle Guy. Justin plans to be an interior designer when he graduates and goes to college. Justin feels that robotics has snuck up on him and made him realize that you sometimes have to do things that might not seem important, but at the same time are important. The main thing he enjoys about being on the team is the people that are involved, even when it comes to the mentors.

Mai Moua Vang

Mai Moua Vang is a 12th grader, in the Internation Baccalaureate program. She joined the robotics team because she likes building and designing. What she does on the team is she helps build and she said that she might work in the engineering field. What Mai Moua learned from being on the team is that everyone has an important role, and without their roles then nothing is accomplished. Mai Moua’s favorite part about being on the robotics team is the hands on experience.

Pang Nhia Lao

Pang Nhia Lao is a 10th grader, in the Internation Baccalaureate Program. She joined because another team member told her to join. Her part on the team is that she is the mascot, she makes designs for the costume and comes up with creative things like buttons and etc. What she has learned from being on the robotics team is that it is not all about the robot but it is also about the individual talents that everyone can contribute to the team. Her favorite part about being on the team is working hard and getting to meet new people slowly.

Josh Kukas

Josh Kukas is a 12th grader, in the engineering program. He joined the robotics team because he was interested in robots and he knows other members on the team. His part on the team is he does prog/misc programming and other random jobs. He does plan to work in the robotics/engineering field. He has learned that a robot requires a lot of different things. His favorite thing about being on the team is the new things he has learned about building a robot.

Mentor and Volunteer!

Scott Wigen

Scott works at Good Rich as an Aerospace Engineer. What made him want to mentor for the herobotics team is because he likes to help out the students, learn new things, and he thinks it is interesting working with the students. Scott’s favorite part about being with the herobotics team is working on pneumatics.

Gene Borscheid

Gene use to work in MTS System, he works as an electrical, mechanical, project, and a manufacturing engineer, but he recently retired. What made him want to mentor and volunteer to help herobotics is because he likes to build things. Gene’s favorite part being a herobotics mentor is the technical challenge.

Israel Bird

Isrela works at Saint Jude Medical, he is a senior researcher and a therapy worker for his job. What made him want to join our herobotics team is to try something new. Isrela favorite part about being in herobotics is programming the robot with the students.

Tom Ajax

Tom work in E.J. Ajax Sons, tom own that company but he also a tool designer, and a supervisor. What make him want to mentor here in robotic is working with the students, and try new things and new oppurtunity. Tom favorite part being here in herobotic is enjoying being with the student and working with the students.

Richard Anderson

Richard works at Dunwoody College of Technology as a Senior Instructor. He wanted to mentor and volunteer for robotics because he likes to turn young people interest to electronics. His favorite part about being in robotics is the enthusiasm from the student completing the robot for the competition.

Don Androsky

Don works at Dunwoody College of Technology as a Senior Instructor. He wanted to mentor and volunteer for robotics because he wants to see what is happening in the high schools as far as technology is concerned. His favorite part about mentoring in robotics is seeing the students come up with creative ideas to solve problem.

Andrew Leroy

Andrew works at Dunwoody College of Technology as a Senior Instructor. He wanted to mentor and volunteer in robotics because he wants to give students the opportunity to experience something that provides hands on experience. His favorite part about being here with the robotics team is meeting and working with students.

Kevin O’Connor

Kevin is a senior Electrical Engineering student at the University of Minnesota. The reason why he wanted to mentor and volunteer with robotics is to give back to the program which he was once involved. He also wants to give other students the same opportunities he had with engineering; because he loves to build robots. His favorite part about mentoring here in robotics is seeing how proud students are when everything starts to come together.

Erin Jordan

Erin works at EJDesign Firm as a Creative Director (principal). She wanted to mentor and volunteer to help robotics because she wanted to use her talent in graphic design/web design to teach students who also have the same interests; in order to encourage students to remain technologically advance and have the basic knowledge to design a website, and hope to teach other. Her favorite part of mentoring the robotics team is interacting with students who have a sincere interest in knowing more about web design.

Ms.Hart decided to work with the robotics team because she thinks that FIRST is a really good program and she has kids who were also involved in the FIRST robotics and the FIRST lego league, and it has become a stepping stone for their future. Her favorite part is watching the kids grow and develop new skills. Also bonds as teammates and become gracious professionals.

Renee Becker

Renee Becker is a college mentor from the University of Minnesota. She was in FIRST robotics in high school and then after she started a alumni organization at the University of Minnesota. She heard that we needed some help and so she came to be a mentor with us. She says that we have a very strong outreach program and she enjoys working with us.
