ABOUT OUR TEAM

Our team began its roots back in 2004 as a Battle-Bots team which was a competition in which we constructed robots to fight other robots. In 2007 we made a transition to FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics. That year we competed at the Minnesota 10,000 Lakes Regional where we made it to the quarter finals and won the Chrysler Team Spirit Award. Then in the 2008 regional we were awarded the Engineering Inspiration Award which "Celebrates outstanding success in advancing respect and appreciation for engineering within a team’s school and community"¹ which advanced us automatically to the Championships in Atlanta. In Atlanta we competed in the Georgia Dome with over 348 other teams across the world. Right now our team is preparing for the 2009-2010 season. Our numbers of members have more than doubled and we have a brand new workshop renovated with donated equipment from Boston Scientific.

OUR MISSION

Our objective is to get young kids interested in science and technology. Besides just building robots, our team often goes out into the community to spread the word of FIRST. We follow the founder of FIRST Robotics, Dean Kamen; vision of spreading engineering throughout the world.

The vision of first is; "To transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology heroes."

(Dean Kamen, founder of FIRST).

HEROBOTICS MOTTO

“Together we WILL build a new heroic future.”

Together we…Is a reminder of how this is a team effort. It’s about everyone working together in unison to accomplish a goal. This is a message that when you work together you can accomplish great things.

…WILLSaying that we WILL shows assurance in our mission to create successful heroes that can lead the field of engineering into greater heights. We know that we are improving the quality of robotics and engineering in our community with our outreach and activities with people all around us. Without this firm assurance, nothing could be accomplished.

…build We don’t build just robots. Yes, we are a robotics team and we do a lot of hands on work, but we are more than that. We are colleagues who rely on each other and help each other succeed. We lift one another up, and we build relationships that will last a lifetime.

…a new heroic future We are called HEROBOTICS, because there is a hero inside us all. Kids aren’t building these robots, and neither are students. The people building these robots are HEROES, people who WILL make the future brighter and better. A hero is someone that people look up to and is a leader, the one who guides others and sets the example for others to follow. We reach out to the underrepresented youth in the world especially, and give them the voice that they have been afraid to use in order to have an impact on the future of engineering. The future of science, technology and humanity is in the hands of our future leaders; our HEROES. It WILL be a future where science and technology WILL lead to new findings and discoveries, and people from all walks of life, and all of humanity, WILL work together to create a better future.
